During allergy season in the Central Valley, lots of people feel heavy pressure in their cheeks. But if you are missing an upper back tooth, that space near your cheekbone causes a completely different problem. When a back tooth is gone for a long time, the jawbone naturally shrinks. The empty space left behind allows your sinus cavity to drop down. If you want to replace that gap with permanent teeth, there might not be enough bone left to hold them. That is when you need a trusted dental dentist to step in. A sinus lift gently raises the floor of your sinus cavity and adds new bone, creating a thick, solid base for your new smile.
Many folks around the College Area or Ceres wait years to fix a missing back molar because nobody can see the gap when they smile. Over time, that delay causes the bone to melt away. When you finally visit Gill Dental & Implants on Orangeburg Ave, we start with a clear 3D digital x-ray. We check exactly how close your sinus cavity is to your mouth. If the bone is too thin, a new root will poke right into the empty sinus space. A sinus lift fixes this by safely packing small bone grafting particles right under the sinus membrane.
Once your sinus lift heals completely, the new bone is strong enough to support a permanent implant. After the base settles, we attach a custom porcelain dental crown right on top so you can chew local almonds without worry. If the surrounding teeth have old, dark spots, we often replace them with natural tooth colored fillings so your entire upper arch looks completely fresh and healthy.
It is a specific type of bone grafting for your upper jaw. We gently push the sinus membrane up and fill the tiny space below it with bone-building material to hold a future implant safely in place.
No. We use powerful local numbing medicine before we start any work. You will feel some pressure, but the procedure is painless. You might have some mild swelling for a few days, but regular over-the-counter pain medicine helps you feel normal quickly.
The soft gums heal up in just a couple of weeks. The new bone needs about four to six months to become solid before any dental dentist can safely place your permanent implants.
You should not blow your nose hard, use a drinking straw, or play wind instruments for a few weeks. The sudden pressure can disturb the healing bone and the delicate sinus membrane. We recommend resting at home and skipping your weekend shopping at Vintage Faire Mall for the first couple of days.
Not always. If you have naturally thick bone in your upper jaw, you might not need one. We only recommend this step if the digital x-rays show your bone is too thin to hold the new tooth securely.
We typically use highly sterilized, safe bone grafting materials from a certified lab, rather than taking bone from your own body. This synthetic or donor material acts like a scaffold. Your body uses it as a guide to grow your own solid, natural bone directly into the space over the next few months.

Looking for a Dentist? THIS IS THE PLACE!! They have been our dentist office for 8 years now. The office staff is helpful with scheduling and insurance. In the back they are so helpful answering questions, explaining treatments. Dr Gill is simply amazing and sets the bar very high for all of his staff. But hands down Dr Sharma is the most kind and caring Dentist I have had in my 52 years. Her chair-side manner is lovely, she truly cares and wants to make sure you are comfortable and in ZERO pain. I had a crown procedure on my lower right molar, the next day the text me to check to see how I was feeling!!!! It is just not, that I feel cared for.... I AM CARED FOR!!!
First let me state that I rarely give reviews. But when exceptional service is given, it’s so important to share. I had the best service at the Gill Family Dentistry. Ingrid, Jolene, and Lily were all very kind and shared their personal experiences to ease my anxiety of removing my wisdom tooth. I was still nervous when Dr.Gill introduced himself and explained the procedure. But as soon as he noticed how tense I was, he was able to calmly talk me through my fears and I truly felt like I was in the best capable hands. He was calm, quick and steady the entire time. His calmness and care has made me a patient for life. Thank you so much Gill Family Dentistry. I look forward to coming back soon.
I have lived in Modesto for 18 years. I was very in need of a good dentist for my mom when she moved here from back east. I found Dr. Gill online and went in for a consultation. The entire staff was friendly and genuine. We had a lot of decisions to make about the work my mom needed and I was in a panic over how I would pay for it. Dentures are very expensive. I had already been through the experience with my husband with another dentist. Jolene helped us get care credit and really explained everything and made it work for us. Dr Gill explained everything in a way that we understood and he really showed care and concern for my mom. I highly recommend Gill Family!
